It is a festival of 14 villages for the last 350 years or more as far as information is available. Now almost all the 14 villages have become wards of Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation. But the traditions continue of celebrating this JAATARA, a colourful (but not with artificial colours) yearly festival. In recent times the congregation becomes very high. This festival is celebrated for a week, (Tuesday to Tuesday) generally in the month of March/April according to Telugu Colander. The concluding Tuesday is most important.. People throng from all the constituent parts of area in a big way and so naturally political colour is also being added year by year in an ascending mode. A lot of security arrangements and traffic diversions have become an order of that day by Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The salient feature of this function -- invoking the blessings of Almighty Goddess Ammavaru (SAKTI) for universal peace, prosperity and well-being.
